The cost of a bet is the operator's margin: add the implied probabilities of a market and the excess over 100% is what you pay regardless of result. Under 105% is competitive. Football is usually priced tighter than cricket at the same operator.
Betting odds look like predictions and function as prices. Learning to convert between the two takes about ten minutes and is the only betting mathematics that reliably changes decisions.

Reading a price
Implied probability is 1 divided by the price. Odds of 2.00 imply 50%; odds of 4.00 imply 25%.

Calculating what a market costs
- Two-way market priced 1.90 and 1.90.
- 1 ÷ 1.90 = 52.6%, twice.
- Total 105.2%, so the margin is 5.2%.

Cricket
A serious book carries 60–150 markets on a BPL fixture. Fewer than 20 indicates a resold generic feed.
